Uplift Project for Crime Prevention Partners

Uplift Project for Crime Prevention Partners (CPP) Training in Three (3) States (Lagos, Edo and Bayelsa) in February (27th & 28th), March (12th & 13th) and March (22nd) 2024.

This training was carried out to equip the CPPs with essential skills to carry out local stakeholder mapping for potential private sector employment opportunities, to sustain and support the CPP structure, identify Brighter Future’s aim and positive offers to employers to improve the image of the community etc. The training participants included staff members of implementing partners, local government representatives and CPP members.

Edo State: The CPPTraining is a well-planned structure capable of fostering community development. On day one, the Edo State Coordinator from Annej provided an overview of the Brighter Futures Project in Edo at the beginning of the event. Each CPP member made a brief presentation on their expectations from the training, and a simple pre-assessment questionnaire was given to each member to assess their levels of understanding. Day two started with a recap of the day one session; the participants shared their learnings and an overview of what was learned from the previous day. The lead trainer focused on critical areas for the day, such as advocacy, mobilization, and community engagement. She explained what Advocacy meant and the various ways advocacy can be used as a tool for change. She further highlighted the importance of advocacy in community development, advocacy strategies for engaging private sector partners and local stakeholders, building relationships, evidence-based advocacy, and coalition building. The entire curriculum was covered within the two-day training. A crucial topic addressed was the use and importance of storytelling in convincing donors and potential partners to make an impact.

Bayelsa State: The training offered specialized knowledge and skills to the Crime Prevention Partners in Amarata and Amassoma Communities in Bayelsa state building their capacity on effective and sustainable approaches to community development and crime prevention in these communities while providing them with the essential support networks. The programme involved a team of training consultants from iSafe, who successfully trained CPP members from Amassoma and Amarata communities.

Lagos State: Day one of the training focused on providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of community development principles and the crucial roles that CPP members play in fostering positive change within their communities. Through interactive sessions, participants learned about identifying local resources, forging partnerships, and developing effective communication and networking skills. Role-playing exercises and group discussions encouraged active participation and knowledge sharing among participants. Overall, Day one laid a solid foundation for further learning and collaboration in the field of community development. The group work and action planning session provided CPP members with valuable tools, resources, and support to pursue grant funding for their community projects. By applying the knowledge and skills gained during the session, participants are better positioned to access financial resources and drive positive change within their communities
